Last week, my pal Jeremy G over at Residential Systems asked if I would be interested in contributing to his site's blog. Of course, I said yes! (I must say, the best thing to come out of my trip to Rhode Island for the Caster "Green Life, Smart Life" story was really connecting with Jeremy. Besides being a really good guy, we've struck up a symbiotic (I hope!) relationship where he needed some writing and I needed some paying! So far, it's worked out famously!)
So, below is my first post for Jeremy, not surprisingly on the iPad. (Seriously, at church yesterday they had this part on how advertising tries to manipulate you on an emotional level, and I told Dana that I could *easily* give a 5 minute comment on how Steve Job's has puppet-mastered me into loving the iPad! I fear that my love for this piece of silicon is bordering on the unnatural, yet I'm gladly going along for the ride...) Since this post is officially for Residential Systems, I'm only posting the first bit here as a teaser. Please click the link at the bottom to follow over to his site for the rest. I've promised Jeremy at least 5 readers!
I’ll admit it: The iPad is one of the frickin’ coolest gadgets to come around in a while. And even though I know – from a strictly intellectual perspective – that it is really just a $500 toy (not a phone, not practical as a computer, no video chatting) I don’t care. Look at it! It has a huge, shiny screen, and you can finger stroke your way through cool page transitions. And the apps! Ohhh, the apps!
Emotionally, I just want one soooo bad. I feel like owning an iPad would instantly make me cooler. It would get me past the ropes into Paris Hilton-only areas of clubs. Suddenly my clothes would fit better. Oh, and that bulge in my pants? Yeah, it’s an iPad. And it is happy to see you!”
But, as a custom installer, I’m a little scared of the iPad too. I mean how am I possibly supposed to sell a touchscreen controller EVER again?
