Top 10 CEDIA EXPO Memories

Posted on August 29, 2012 at 6:05 PM Comments comments (2)

A week from today, I will be walking off of a plane and stepping into the (hopefully) welcoming bosom of Indianapolis for the annual CEDIA EXPO. (Love ya, Indy, but, can't lie, looking forward to going back to Denver in '13!)

This will be my 14th EXPO and it is my favorite of the conventions for all of the reasons listed in my “Why...

Boss Install: Black Diamond Anamorphic

Posted on August 28, 2012 at 5:30 PM Comments comments (0)

It’s no secret that I love anamorphic front projection systems. (For a thorough primer on what an anamorphic front projection system is, why it is so wicked-awesome and to see how it affects the video frame, click this link.)

There have been three principal reasons making it diffic...

Keely Pwns the Internet: Vol 1

Posted on August 27, 2012 at 3:55 PM Comments comments (0)

My sister-in-law, Keely, is the master of all things pop culture and Internets related. There is never anything that I’ve seen/shared in which she hasn’t already seen it, seen the parody of it, and then seen other things even better than it.

I previously wrote this about Keely: "One of the real benefits of living in a home with no cable TV -- like my sister-in-law, Keely -- is that you have a lot of extra time for other thing...

Seeing Star Wars for the First Time, Again

Obi-Wan: That boy is our last hope.

Yoda: No. There is another... The Empire Strikes Back

I first saw Star Wars in 1977. I was 7 years old. And I think it will be one of those memories that I will carry with me until the day the day that I die.

My parents were shopping in Carmel, California and they dropped my cousin and me off at this small th...

Sam Adams: Brewer, IPA-triot

Posted on August 24, 2012 at 11:25 AM Comments comments (1)

Really, what do we know of this Sam Adams? Brewer. Patriot. Likes to drink frothy ale from a hearty, silver flagon. Wears a sleeveless leather vest fully unbuttoned with a shirt slightly agape. Wears his hair in a classic Friendo. Wins all kinds of Great American Beer Festival awards. Has a blue tap handle available at most breweries. Blah, blah.

Embracing Apple Mind Think

Posted on August 20, 2012 at 8:45 AM Comments comments (4)

"Think different." – Apple

Whether you're a Mac or a PC (and, for the record, I'm a PC), you've got to hand it to Apple. They went from a company on the brink of total irrelevancy to a market dominating innovator on multiple fronts whose stock closed Friday with a market cap crossing the $600 billion mark. Apple i...

Me and the Little Lady, Round 2

Posted on August 17, 2012 at 4:55 PM Comments comments (0)

I know a girl, she puts the color inside of my world. But she's just like a maze, where all of the walls all continually change. And I've done all I can, to stand on her steps with my heart in my hands. Now I'm starting to see, maybe it's got nothing to do with me. Fathers, be good to your daughters. Daughters will love like you do…” – John Mayer

Time flies. And at no point does in your life does it fly fas...

Women are from Venus, Men Love Tech

Posted on August 16, 2012 at 10:05 PM Comments comments (11)

I’ve read the news, I’ve heard the reports and studies and I’ve seen the figures claiming the billions of dollars women spend on tech annually and how they are a major factor in influencing the majority of technology buying decisions. And while I absolutely believe in the importance of engaging women in the system design and buying process, and have no doubt that they are a major influence on the money being spent, I’m just not sure I totally buy into th...

Why I Love CEDIA's EXPO

Posted on August 12, 2012 at 10:25 AM Comments comments (0)

As someone who has attended a number of tradeshows, I can easily – and honestly – claim that the annual CEDIA EXPO is my favorite. (It's held each year in September, and will be in Indianapolis from the 5th to the 8th this year.)

While the other events have their plusses, the EXPO is the one industry event that I consider a must attend for anyone truly serious about the industry. Since I became a custom installer in 1998, I&#...

The One in a Million Glasseser Edit

Posted on August 9, 2012 at 5:50 PM Comments comments (0)

As a general rule, I think most everything that I write is brilliant. (There. I said it.)

Yes, of course, when I think about it rationally and logically I realize that that certainly isn’t the case, and that much of what I put out – while hopefully entertaining and at least with moderately correct punctuation and grammar usage – is merely just fair or decent and only occasionally rising to the blandest-of-bland adjective...

We already do what Best Buy strives for

Posted on August 3, 2012 at 11:00 AM Comments comments (0)

For years Best Buy has been the daunting Goliath of the consumer electronics world. With market moving pricing (thanks for killing the entire video segment, by the way!), vast selection and massive buy-now/get-now inventory, they frequently rolled into towns and quickly dominated other companies right out of business. They’re huge, with more than a tho...

Wield the skillet! Pour the Liquid Gold!

Posted on August 1, 2012 at 5:30 PM Comments comments (1)

This is a story of social media marketing done to The Awesome. Taking a TV ad campaign and breathing life in it in the social world to create a skillet filled with forged liquid brilliance!

It’s been exactly a year and 13,700-ish posts since I joined Twitter as @SciaccaTweets. And, I must say, as giveaways go, Twitter has been ...
