Survivor: One World - Thanks for the Souvenir

Posted on March 22, 2012 at 11:30 AM Comments comments (1)

Previously on Survivor…

Probst brings the One World house of cards crashing to the ground when he announces, “Drop your buffs! You are switching tribes!” It's time to switch up the teams; grab an egg, break it; Orange is Manono, Blue is Salani. Resulting in most…uneven…switch-up…EVER! Y...

Survivor: One World - A Bunch of Idiots

Recap, aka, last week on Survivor…

Right at the beginning we learn the shockingly awesome bit of info that Leif sleeps in a crate! This is actually brilliant because it is dry, out of the elements, probably warm, keeps him from having to have any of Tarzan’s hair or bulge touch him in the night and likely ke...

Survivors ready? Let’s recap last week…

A massive storm of freezing rain comes in and the women’s hatches are anything but battened down. (Apparently “fire is life” and “you have GOT to keep your fire going!” are things the ladies have yet to learn or take to heart.) The...

Survivor: One World - One World is Out the Window

Before I start in on what I believe is the first ever Leap Day episode of Survivor, I need to mention two things.

Thing 1: My DVR appears that it may be up to its old shenanigans again. Back in 2008 I wrote about how many people across the country were running into issues recording Survivor. So, last night at 8:14 my Spidey ...

New = Sweet Deal! Old = Suck it, Trebek!

There is a frequent phenomena in business where by we focus all or much of our attentions on attracting NEW business through offers and promotions and discounts and deals. Things like, "Sign up today and get a free this!" But, what if you signed up yesterday? Or last month? Or a year or two ago? What do these "rewards" for new Johnny-come-lately-customers say to our existing, loyal and faithful client base? Without them, we wouldn’t be where we are today.

Survivor: One World - Total Dysfunction

My plan was not to blog this season of Survivor, but I have goaded so many people into watching against their will that now I feel a bit obligated to at least cover a few episodes... Blarg! (Also, and unrelated, this happens to be my 600th blog post. So, thanks for reading!)

The second episode (Day 4) begins with a recap of where we are…Fancy boy, Colton feels alienated in his alpha-male tribe, the strong boys have an alliance ...

39 Days, 18 People, 1 Survivor!

So, new season of my favorite TV reality show started last night: Survivor One World. And so far this season seems to have all the classic ingredients of a big heaping bowl of Suvivor Sundae goodness! The big twist this year is that they are divided into two tribes – men vs women – living on one beach together. Traditionally groups are complete...

Super Bowl 2012 Ads: Winners & Losers

I can remember watching TV with my grandfather many years ago. And watching TV with my grandfather usually meant sitting in his very dark, wood-paneled den, him smoking cigarettes just as fast as he could light them, and me sitting there being very quiet and basically giving the illusion that my grandfather was alone watching TV. So we’re watching something and after some ad he says, “That was a terrible ad! Terrible!”

10 Reasons Why I'm Not Betting On Apple TV

Immediately prior to my leaving for CES, I figured it was a good time for a bit of speculation. And nowhere is speculation in the tech world more popular than with Apple (who doesn’t even bother attending CES by the way).

Apple is notoriously one of the most tight-lipped companies around. In fact, the CIA would do well to sit though a two-day “How to keep your mouth shut-the-hell-up!” symposium at the Cupertino headquar...

"The Force can have a strong influence on the weak-minded"

I tried to convince/fool myself that I wasn’t mentally keeping track of the date and subconsciously counting down the days until the complete Star Wars saga was re-released – yesterday – this time in the full high definition 1080p/24 goodness of Blu-ray. I successfully managed to avoid all of the pre-release hype and fan-boy whining over more changes to the originals and new changes to the re-re-releases. (Here’s a link

First, I’m going to say that I think this is potentially a million dollar idea. Maybe even more. After my little missive on the giant Web companies and their many millions of dollars of seemingly untraceable income, it might be just the kind of hare-brained scheme that people would pony-up REAL money for. Walking around money. Jet money. I actually woke Dan...

When? Where? How? And what, exactly?

I received an e-mail a few days ago from a PR agency that at best falls under the category of “questionable PR” and at worst graduates all the way to full-on #PR FAIL!

You see, a successful press release should at the bare minimum do a few key, crucial, BASIC things. Maybe there will be some bit of intro text; kind of an amuse-bouche to break the ice. A "Hey, John! How-ya doin'? Surviving the crippling Ju...

Checks in the mail with lots of commas and zeroes,

Watching good TV, like Season 1 of Heroes.

The joy that free scotch and airline upgrades can bring,

These are a few of MY favorite things…

I was out in San Jose last week having dinner with

Real Life Kitchen Nightmare

With little shame or guilt, I am able to freely admit that we watch a lot of TV. (OK, I don't exactly prance around wearing a "Fan of Teen Mom 2!" shirt. That's more Dana's guilt to bear.) And one of the shows that we got hooked on was Kitchen Nightmares. A spin off from the BBC show, Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, this follows chef Gordon Ramsay around while he tr...

(I understand that some of you don’t watch Survivor and you are probably tempted to skip right over this. To that I say...give the post a try. Even if you AREN’T a Survivor fan, it’s funny. So, put those glasses back on and read on, dear reader...)

It takes a special, unique and way-off-the-reservation brand of insane in the membrane crazy to even *think* about going for the title of “craziest...

Give me a heaping bowl of Survivor Sundae!

As you all know, I love me some Survivor. Even after 21 Seasons – we’re midway into number 22 right now – it seems to stay fresh, new and original. And if there was an All-Survivor, all-the-time cable channel, I would probably find a way to fuze my cable box to it. It would have behind the scenes at the Ponderosa, crazy deleted scenes from confessional footage, and come with a personalized buff smelling of Probst's unique musk and wit. And after all of this ti...

Survivor: I vote you BACK on the island!

Confession: I love Survivor. You don’t’ need to make any comments about how lame it is or how reality TV is contributing to the downward spiral of our generation. I don’t care. To date, I have missed a SINGLE episode...Season 1, Ep 1. From Ep 2 on, I have been there for every immunity challenge, tribal council, lie, backstab and player meltdown. Even during that strange and cruel season

You broke my TV! Now fix it or give me a new one!

At the risk of handing over the billows to help stoke what seems to be a near eternal, roaring flame war topic, I will start by saying that I am both THX and ISF video calibration certified. And regardless of what you may think about these services – with lines pretty clearly formed on the sides of “Your TV is unwatchable without it!” and “Biggest waste of money ever!” – there are many people that feel a calibrated display produces a much mor...

Big Event TV screen size math

Like many of you, I’m watching the Super Bowl right now. Honestly, I’m not so interested in the game – this will be the first game I’ve actually watched this year – but more so into the pomp and circumstance of the event: the pre-game jet flyovers (what, no B2 Spirit this year, Dallas? I thought everything was bigger there? And did anyone else think that Xtina was looking a little puffy? Her voice still sounded great, but she needs to go back to be...

So, I just finished my review of the Sony Google TV device. My story has been written, it has been edited and then re-edited and returned and the hardware has been repacked into its nice white box, a
