I've angered the Antenna Gods!

I have mocked the Gods. I have chastised them, I have berated and belittled them and I have done the modern day equivalent of strolling into Zeus’ temple, undoing my leather girdle and taking a long, steady piss into his fountain. All the while looking up towards Olympus, laughing, shaking my fist and shouting, “Drink up, you feeble Zeus! You impotent figment of Greece’s imagination! Bwa-ha-ha!”
Except these are the Antenna Gods.
And th...

3D’s created a monster, ‘cos nobody wants to see 2D no more they want 3D. 2D’s chopped liver. Well if you want 3D, then this is what I’ll give ya, a little bit of Runco mixed with some big picture. Some eyewear that will calm down your eyes quicker...
OK, enough with the Real Slim Shady. If there was anything I learned at the CEDIA Expo this year it was this: Do NOT attempt to walk to ...

Those of you with discernment will realize that a few days ago I mentioned that Dana and I DROVE to Atlanta for CEDIA. (You can see the post here, with an awesome anti-meth billboard campaign.) And then during my little “Your life can change in an instant, young man

Sky Mall 3.0 – You because you love! Did some marathon plane flying lately and, of course, you know what that means. A new Sky Mall! My seatback was rockin’ the Holiday 2010 edition, and, once again, Sky Mall did NOT disappoint! I am thinking of elevating Sky Mall to Death and Taxes status as a sure thing. If you’re new to my love for all things Sky Mall, please check out my first post,

Wake up this morning at the ungodly hour of 6:15 AM (honestly, I never really sleep well when I’m out of town; after 15 years I am conditioned to having Dana’s soft body next to me, ready for her sleeping hand to rise of its own self-aware accord and bat away any attempted gropes throughout the night, and sleeping alone in a strange hotel bed, in a strange hotel city with a strange, urgent assignment hanging over my head for the next morning doesn’t add up to a peaceful nigh...

I realize that I've cited my antenna disdain quite a bit recently in the blogs recanting my CEDIA exploits and then mentioned the amazing story that I managed to pluck from the possible rubble which is trying to cobble something interesting about antennas. Much like how an incredibly expensive and delicious truffle grows in mounds of pig poop. So, I figured I would share the story with you so you too can enjoy the brilliance which is Sciacca on antennas. (Take this with a ...

The day started off innocently enough. I hadn’t stayed out too late, I hadn’t got too much of a drunk on, I didn’t have any crazy early appointments, and I didn’t have any looming antenna events hanging all Sword of Damocles like over my every step. So I head down the elevator and as I’m walking out the door I see that the CEDIA shuttle bus is there. So I break into this slow, loping trot to make sure I get the bus. But due to the incline the bus i...

As I write this, it is 11:40 PM on Thursday, which means that I’ve been up and quasi on-the-go for about 17 hours now. I’ve got some Michael Franti (Say de rude boys are back een town. Rude boys!) going on the Renaissance’s iPod integration radio and the blood in my feet has momentarily stopped screaming as I’ve elevated them somewhat at or near heart level so that I can finally concentrate on something other than their muffled shrieks of pain and discon...

I’m hoping that at least one of you faithful readers out there has been like, “Where’s John?! My God, I hope he’s OK! I’m starting to get the no new blog twitches!”
Wow! It has been a BUSY, action-packed couple of days here in Atlanta! After getting to bed after midnight last night, I’m actually up at 6 AM to shower, dress and write for a bit before resetting the clock and ...

Usually when Kaleidescape makes some new announcement it is something along the lines of, “Blah, blah, blah, very cool new feature, blah, blah, best in class, blah, blah, terrific experience, blah, blah, many, MANY thousands of dollars, blah, blah we expect to emerge victorious from the lawsuit.”
Now, I’ll be honest, I am a giant Kaleidescape fan. GIANT. I think their system is not just awesome, but totally awesome. And if I had an extra 18 grand...

Left today for the 360 mile trip to Atlanta for the CEDIA Expo, and despite the fact that my Magellan GPS has repeatedly proven itself to be a spiteful and vindictive guide in the past – much like an evil Sacajawea that really is only curious in seeing how big of pile of white-man heads she can pile up – I “agreed” to follow its turn suggestions. Look, I suck at directions. Like suck-diddily-uck. Normally I rely on Dana who has been called – by her...

Well, it’s been over 6 months since I postulated that iPod – with it’s cheap-cheap 160 Gig drive, incredibly-easy-to-manage-your-library iTunes software and heck just forget the whole iPod altogether and use an Apple TV – was going to possibly kill server company Escient. The real warning sign for me was getting the latest price sheet that rivaled Airplane’s Pamphlet of Famous Jewish Sports Legends in size with a whopping two (2) SKUs. (Now, I’m no detectiv...

Since you are likely not a member of the A/V press corps – and if you are a member, then wow! Thanks for reading my blog, and stop trying to steal my stuff, Darryl! (I kid because I love. But I still watch…very closely) – then you probably haven’t been inundated with the deluge of press releases and materials reminding you constantly that Denon is about to celebrate their 100th Anniversary on October 1st.
Honestly, this is an incredibly cool mileston...

We’re at the library today, bulking up on materials for our upcoming trip to CEDIA; me on books with things like “rogue military sniper,” “overthrow Black Shadow-ops plot” and “submarine trapped under the arctic” in the descriptions and Dana getting books-on-CD with things like “from the author who brought you ‘Everything your man says is wrong!’ and ‘Puppies, unicorns and rainbows – you DO deserve it all!’” A...

Much like being way late to the party when I discovered the hilarity which is the "featured creatures" of PeopleofWalmart.com, I have stumbled across another brilliant Website/blog yesterday that I thought I would share. Now, this guy has already amassed more than 71 MILLION page views and has even been given a book deal (oh, that I should be discovered!), so it is quite likely that some of you are already familiar with

As mentioned previously, I started this year with the goal of reading the Bible completely through. As Big Dan Teague from Oh, Brother would say, “The truth, every blessed word of it. From Genesis down to Revelations. Yes, the word of God.” (You can read some of my previous Biblical commetary here; the borderline lewd Update 11/15 done, the

Affirmative: In this debate, I will be taking the side of “Yes, the iPad IS the control system of the future“ and as a secondary point of fact that we should all accept it before it destroys us.
Negative: I will be arguing the side of, “The iPad is the spawn of Lucifer himself.” Viewing with appreciation my opponent’s posit on his secondary point, I’m in full accord that it WILL destroy us; however I shall prove that said destruction only...

These are the second batch of e-mail blasts to my members (I believe numbering a whopping 24 at the time!) sent on March 12 and 25.
Ever wondered if PR works? Yesterday, PR Buddha tweeted my post about hating 3D TV and *INSTANTLY* I received tons of hits. Like 800% more than my best day ever. And from all around the world (England, Germany, Canada).
Never doubt the power of good PR or especially that of PR Buddha! (Caster Comm in da house!) [Cas...

I know that many of you have found me recently. And to each and every one of you I say a sincere, "Welcome!" And while I would *love* for you to go back through the archives and read each and every one of the classic gems, I realize that that is unlikely. (Unless you are Andrew from Elgin, IL, who did that very thing!)
So, I have been sending out fairly regular bi-ish weekly e-mail missives to members talking about the goings-on here, and I thought I would start posting up ...

After a very late embargoed video chat with Kaleidescape last night (starting at 9PM!), it was time to enjoy some time with the ones that I love; Dana, TV and a bottle of Red.
Last night saw the ending of one show that we’ve really enjoyed – MasterChef – and the beginning of a new season of another that we’ve loved for years – Survivor: Ni-har-ahh-hwaa.
If you watch MasterChef and have yet to see the finale, then you’ll...
