Wilkinson blog: We cross sabres again!
Posted on November 8, 2010 at 11:55 AM |
Now, I've been chiding fellow technology journalist, Darryl Wilkinson, about lots of things. But really, I kid because I love. And begrudgingly respect. And Darryl seems more than able to take it along with dishing-out buffet-sized heapings of...it. Darryl has been sending me fairly frequent text messages about the "beautiful people status at Panerai." Darryl visits Panerai so often that he is either a major shareholder, or fighting -- and losing -- some kind of weird coffee and cinnamon roll Jones, or there indeed are beautfiul people flocking to his particular Panerai. So I told him he should start a blog. And that should be the title. But his response to blogging has always been the same: No. His actual response was this: (Please note how I'm keeping Darryl's comments in the old, harder to read, bush-league electric-teal...)
There is no way I can compete with you on the sheer volume of blogging that you do. I’m not sure I can compete on hilarity, either. In fact, I’ll probably never write a blog since you have ruined the blogosphere for all of the rest of us technically inclined writers.
But, I may have found a way to keep up. I’m going to use this site to computer generate all the posts for my new blog…
http://www.lorizzle.nl/ (That is rather hilarious, by the way. However, Dana has insisted that she does not want her name on a T-shirt regardless of how crizzle her tizzles may make me...)
So, today started as a fairly typical Monday. I'm off work, and had two story deadlines to file. So I'm sitting on the courch, using Google TV to listen to Napster and finishing my final edits when I get the ba-bing! of a new e-mail message.
So I open the AOL tab and see this:
Interesting, thinks I. So I open the message and see this:
Darryl Wilkinson has sent you a link to a blog:
Pith off, Mr . Sciacca...
Blog: Darryl Wilkinson Writes...
Post: Blatant Ripoff

So I head on over and see the newest site to join the blog-o-sphere, curiously and familiarly titled "Darryl Wilkinson Writes..." Here's his first post:
Blatant Ripoff
OK, sure, the title of my new blog is a blatant ripoff of John Sciacca's blog, but I'm tired of him getting all the hits and adulation. I'm also tired of him making fun of me because I don't have a blog of my own. Sure, his blog is funny, witty, and filled with sometimes useful information - but who wants that sort of thing? And, really, who wants to read those massive tomes he publishes on line? I'm interested in producing much more schlocky-but-pithy stuff, the kind of thing that makes you wonder why you decided to follow this blog in the first place. OK, Mr. Sciacca, it's on...
You'll have to click over to his site to see my reply. And, hopefully Darryl will keep up with it. He can be hilarious. Especially when he isn't pointing the laser-beam of his witty-witty hurt-hurt at you. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Darryl, so, thanks! And I'll be watching...

Looks like there's new kid on the block, John. I may have to defect -- put my optic nerves on the first bus out of Shanghai and head over there to Darryl's place. We're through, John -- through. What's does pithy mean? ;-)
Et tu, Rob-ay?
